Not surprisingly, in Israel's highly politicized society, hundreds of students are attracted each year to the Department of Political Science. The Department offers courses in Israeli and comparative politics, international relations, political behavior, public administration, law and politics, military thought, and political communication. The Department includes 20 full-time faculty (including eight recipients of the prestigious Allon Fellowship), about 900 undergraduates, 400 MA students, and 30 Ph.D. students. Theoretical and empirical studies conducted by its members are published frequently in the profession's most highly regarded journals. Department members have published numerous books, some of which won international awards. Some of these are products of cooperative effort by scholars working on facets of such diverse fields as foreign policy, strategic studies, political economy, and Israeli politics. Department members, known for their excellent scholarship on modern Israel, study virtually all aspects of the Israeli polity: Israeli-Palestinian relations, the politics of the peace process, the political behavior of the Arab community, women in politics, party and voting behavior, coalition dynamics, urban politics, democracy and national security, urban politics, political leadership, the Israeli civil service, the political behavior of immigrants, and the politics of privatization. The department includes also experts on Asia and Latin America. Research in these areas is often policy-oriented and timely. In response to the great demand for in-depth analysis of current issues, the Department organizes top quality lectures, seminars, symposia, and other public events. The Department is also involved in research institutes (like The Jaffe Center for Stratigic Studies and The Curiel Center for International Affairs) The Department runs an internship program for undergraduates who are serving, as part of their studies, in national and local government positions.
